In the results declared on Tuesday, several medical aspirants from Chandigarh figured in the top 100 ranks.
A day after the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced the results of the National Entrance Cum Eligibility Test (NEET) entrance exam, the successful candidates said self study is the key to score good ranks and bag seats in elite medical colleges.
Mantavya Gupta, a resident of Panchkula with AIR 43, said: “For me, studying regularly and having an overall knowledge of the concept by studying various books is the key to score good ranks in the entrance exam. Only taking tuition will not get you anywhere, everything comes down to regular self study. It is very important as it will help bring clarity in concepts.”
Mantavya, who wants to be a surgeon, said: "While pursuing MBBS, my priority will be to understand what interests me the most and what specialisation I want to opt for."
In the results declared on Tuesday, several medical aspirants from Chandigarh figured in the top 100 ranks. While city girls Aarushi bagged the 5th rank, Japnoor Kaur came seventh.
To counter stress, the students would indulge in various recreational activities. Chestha Sachdeva with AIR 121 said: “I would listening to music and watch movies once in a while to get a break from studies. It’s really important to keep your mind fresh and active in order to be stress-free.”
Cheshta, a resident of Chandigarh, is yet to decide what interests her the most, but felt that there is a dire need that the schools also play a role in helping students prepare for the entrance exams.
“The schools only teach the regular syllabus of CBSE and nothing with regard to the entrance exam. They should offer teachings that will help the students, especially those who cannot afford tuition,” she said.
The students also stated that confusion related to the NEET examination was also a hurdle. The Supreme Court judgment came just three days before the exam, making NEET mandatory for all aspirants of medical and dental examinations.
The entrance exam has been a subject of controversies as over 80 cases were filled opposing the NEET exam, two of which were filled by the state governments.
