The much-awaited results of the second phase of National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET II) were announced on Thursday, a day ahead of schedule. Thousands of medical and dental college aspirants in Maharashtra checked their results which will hold valid for private colleges only.
Of the 7,31,223 applicants, around 56 per cent have qualified in the exam conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
The qualifying criteria for general category students was 50 percentile and 1,71,329 applicants from the category have qualified for admissions. More girls — 2,26,049 — qualified for admissions to medical and dental colleges than boys — 1,83,424. Of the nine transgendered applicants, four have qualified.
For aspirants in Maharashtra, which used to conduct its own entrance test earlier, NEET has carried special importance owing to the controversy. In April, the Supreme Court made it compulsory to take NEET for admissions to medical and dental colleges across India. The first phase of the exam, for which many students had not applied, was held in May, three days after the SC decision. Thereafter a second phase was announced but students and parents protested claiming shortage of time for preparation. While the Supreme Court upheld its decision, an ordinance by the President of India partially overturned the ordinance.
According to the ordinance, states could choose to admit students to government colleges through NEET or state entrance test results but admissions to private colleges were to be done by NEET scores. States like Maharashtra decided to conduct admissions to government colleges through the state common entrance test but private colleges had to consider NEET results only.
This means NEET scorers in Maharashtra are seeking admissions to seats in private medical and dental colleges that had not been filled through MH-CET scores. Of the 6,205 seats in Maharashtra, only 2,810 are in government colleges, admissions to which were done through MHT-CET scores. There are 3,395 seats– 1,720 in private colleges and 1,675 in deemed colleges — will be now be filled through NEET scores.

Log onto the official website, aipmt.nic.in
Click on the link “NEET result”
A new page will open, enter your roll number and date of birth
The result will be displayed
Check and take a print out of the result.
