According to the Mahararashra government’s resolution, a student seeking admission in a medical or dental test will have to write the NEET, after which a merit list would be prepared. DMER has also released the detailed admission procedure for the candidates.

Mumbai, August 31: The Bombay High Court  stayed the Government Resolution issued by Maharashtra government and the circular (issued by the central government) related to admissions of aspirants to medical and dental courses. A division bench presided by Justice Shantanu Kemkar and Justice Makarand Karnik while hearing a bunch of petitions filed by D Y Patil and seven other deemed universities decided to stay the state’s GR as well as the circular issued by the union health ministry.
The deemed universities have argued that they are governed by the statutory powers of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and also by the Medical Council of India and that the state government cannot overrule them. According to the state government’s resolution, a student seeking admission in a medical or dental test will have to write the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET), after which a merit list would be announced, based on which colleges would be allocated. Around 2,000 students in Maharashtra and other states have registered for NEET for 1,675 seats of the deemed institutes in the state as per a report.
Recently, the Directorate of Medical Education & Research (DMER), Government of Maharashtra, has released a detailed admission procedure notice for the medical aspirants seeking admission in private colleges across Maharashtra. For both deemed and private medical and dental colleges, aspirants will have to fill a ‘Preference Form’. The preference form is available at the official website of DMER. The official notification on DMER official website states that  in view of Hon’ble High Court directions the candidates who have applied for both Deemed University college as well as Private Medical and Dental college will be allowed to participate in the  ongoing counseling process and schedule from  August 30, 2016 to September 2, 2016.
However such a candidate will be allowed  to fill  preference  only for Private Medical and Dental college excluding Deemed University. For the candidates who have only applied only for Private, Medical and Dental colleges (Excluding Deemed University) will also be allowed
to fill preference only for Private  Medical and Dental colleges (Excluding Deemed University) during  counseling process. The candidates need to note that there are four regional centres across Maharashtra at Mumbai, Pune, Aurangabad and Nagpur. It is important for the candidates toreport at the regional centres on the dates according to their All India NEET Ranking.
