With only a week to go for National Eligibility and Entrance Test-II (NEET-II), aspiring candidates from the Tricity are an anxious lot. This is particularly true for students who will attempt NEET for the second time because regardless of their performance, marks of NEET-I will not be considered. The slew of restrictions on clothing and accessories, including watches has also added to the stress.
However, experts advise students to focus on NCERT books in the last few days as NEET-I was completely based on NCERT books. In a bid to help students manage revision in a relaxed manner, TOI talks to experts of Physics, Chemistry and Biology on last minute preparations.
CHEMISTRY
A chemistry expert said, "The chemistry paper of NEET 1 had conceptual questions and the standard was higher than the previous year's paper. Students must go through the NCERT books. They will have to learn concepts and study between the lines. Advance study in GOC-isomerism, coordination chemistry and thermodynamics would be beneficial. Apart from factual questions, students must also focus on conceptual questions as many questions in NEET 1 were conceptual. I expect the approach in NEET 2 to remain the same."
"In the Chemistry section, it is wise to attempt organic and inorganic chemistry first as these two branches of chemistry require the least calculation. So you attempt more questions in less time and get a lot of buffer time for the rest of the paper," he said.
PHYSICS
A physics expert said, "In physics, just revise the formula chart of each chapter which students must have prepared already. Chapters of modern physics, heat and optics carry more weightage, therefore students must try to revise these in the last few days. Try to solve previous years' papers."
On the time to be left to attempt the physics section, he said, "If students plan to attempt the physics section in the end, they should leave 1 hour 10 minutes time. Also, not much time should be spent on problems which they find tough."
BIOLOGY
A city-based biology expert said, "Although the Biology section in NEET 1 was mostly based on NCERT books, the questions required analytical ability and it was easy to make the wrong choice if the options were not read and analyzed carefully. So even if the question seems basic, students must read it carefully and go through all the options before marking the answer. Do not answer in haste."
He stressed the need to study diagrams. "Go through each and every diagram and even learn the names of scientists and their achievements and the dates mentioned in NCERT. Biology needs repetition, so students must revise examples of morphology, kingdoms, tissues and reproduction in flowering plants just prior to the exam."
According to Goyal Biology is given considerable weightage in the exam and must be thoroughly prepared. "Since Biology carries 50% weightage in (90 questions out of 180 will be from biology), the students must spend more time revising Biology few days before the exam," he suggested.
Exam Date | July 24.
Listicle-NEET-II: Things to remember.
-Students must revise NCERT textbooks of biology, chemistry and physics. Many questions in NEET 1 were based on these textbooks.
- Biology and chemistry questions asked in NEET 1 were conceptual and along expected lines. So keep your basics straight and revise important concepts.
- Questions in the physics section of NEET 1 were calculative with a trend towards asking regular, important topics. The student must not spend too much time on one numerical and move ahead. The student must time himself every 10 to 15 minutes during the exam to be able to maintain constant speed.
-It is advisable to first attempt biology, then chemistry and then physics for maximum time efficiency.
-Mark the answers on the OMR sheet side by side and don't keep it for the end.
-Revise only what you have already read. No new matter should be read at this stage.
- There's no need to attempt any question paper or read matter from unreliable online sources.
-The matter online can have errors and can spoil the student's concepts and leave them confused.
-Try to take 6-8 hours of sleep the night before the exam.
-Reach examination centre well in time to avoid any last minute rush and panic
-Be careful not to wear/carry any prohibited items as mentioned in the prospectus.-Carry your admit card in a water proof packet.
-Do take a regular breakfast on the day of the exam and do not go empty stomach.
-Since NEET II has come in the monsoons it is advisable to apply mosquito repellant keeping Dengue and Malaria in mind. Moreover mosquito bites can be quite irritating and disturbing during the exam.
