KANPUR: Seventeen-year-old Neelesh Verma is one among the top rankers of JEE Advanced 2016 and would soon be studying at an IIT. Neelesh who had scored AIR 1 in OBC NCL (Non Creamy Layer) Person With Disablity (PWD) category had locked his choice of studying BTech at IIT-Bombay. He has chosen computer science and engineering branch of BTech during the first round of document verification held between July 1 and 5. Neelesh would be reporting at IITKanpur on July 21. He cleared JEE-Advanced and his class XII in the same go in the ongoing year.

But Neelesh is a student with a difference. Despite having physical deformity in right arm (has three fingers in right hand) and weak bones (in right arm) which undermines his performance since childhood, Neelesh managed to clear one of the toughest exams (JEE Advanced) and would now study with the toppers of JEE Advanced.

Talking to TOI Neelesh said, "Like people have two bones in their each arm, I have just one bone in my right arm since my childhood. This used to give weakness to my hand. I have three fingers in my right hand. But over the years I have made my left arm my tool. I write with my left hand and now I am comfortable."

Neelesh further said that he chose studying at IIT-Bombay on coming to know that first 60 rankers of JEE Advanced had opted for computer science and engineering department at IITBombay. "As I was eligible for opting for computer science and engineering department at IIT-Mumbai, I locked my preference for this particular IIT," said Neelesh. He said that CSE department at IIT-Kanpur is also good but somehow he had liking for IIT-Bombay.

Neelesh's achievement had made his parents and school proud. A student of Omkareshwar Saraswati Vidya Niketan inter college, Jawahar Nagar, Neelesh managed to crack the most coveted exam in his very first attempt. His teachers who taught him Physics, Chemistry and Maths in school said that it was the hardwork and the determination of Neelesh that despite challenges (physical deformity) he managed to crack one of the toughest exams in the country.

Neelesh's father Omprakash Verma who is away in Dewas in Madhya Pradesh and works in a private firm, mother Amravati who is a housewife and elder brother who is pursuing BTech were extremely happy that Neelesh got institute like IIT-Mumbai to study and pursue BTech.

Neelesh was of a firm belief that he will get above 90% marks in class XII UP board exams and the same happened when he got 93.6% marks. He had scored 93% in class X.

He said that he was thankful to his teachers who taught him for the entire year to achieve this milestone but this is just the beginning as he has to work hard in IIT as well.
