JEE Advanced 2016 Eligibility Criteria

JEE Advanced 2016 Eligibility Criteria is almost similar as last year. Proposed change in JEE Advanced 2016has been postponed by the JEE Admission Board (JAB) until enough data has been collected and analyzed to prove that the new norms like Top 20 percentile eligibility criterion BUT but has got more than 75% will be eligible for JEE Advanced 2016.

Eligibility Criteria for JEE Advanced 2016

Only Top 1,50,000 candidates across JEE Main Merit List of various categories will be eligible for taking JEE Advanced exams. These candidates are distributed across merit lists in the following manner: 50.5% candidates or Top 75,750 candidates from the Common Merit List (CML), 27% candidates or Top 40,500 candidates from the Other Backward Classes-Non Creamy Layer OBC(NCL), 15% candidates or Top 22,500 candidates from the Scheduled Caste(SC), 7.5% candidates or Top 11,250 candidates from the Scheduled Tribe(ST).  3% of Total Seats in Each Category are reserved for Persons with Disability (PwD) candidates. Hence, 2,272 seats from General (GE) category are for PwD candidates. Similarly, 1,215 of OBC seats, 675 of SC seats and 338 of ST seats are for PwD candidates of their respective categories. Academic Qualifications for JEE Advanced 2016 For admissions to IITs and ISM Dhanbad, students will be selected only on the basis of JEE Advanced All India Rank IAIR) but only if they are among the Top  20 percentile of their respective boards PULS more than 75% will be eligible for JEE Advanced 2016. Candidates from Boards that do not declare information regarding their Top 20 percentile cutoffs will have to produce a certificate from their Board stating that they do fall within that category. If they fail to do so, the CBSE percentile will be considered to decide the minimum marks they need to get in their Class 12 board exam. However, according to the directives of the Government of India, some relaxation will be given to PwD candidates in the above-mentioned condition. If Board only awards letter grades without the equivalent percentage of marks on the grade sheet, candidates will need to submit the certificate from the Board specifying the equivalent marks at the time of online acceptance of seat allotted to them. Other Qualifications for JEE Advanced 2016 include:  Age Limit General Candidates and Other Backward Classes (OBC) candidates should not be more than 25 years old to be eligible for the exam. It means they should have been born on or after October 01, 1991. SC, ST and PwD candidates should not be more than 30 years old to be eligible for the exam. It means they should have been born on or after October 01, 1986. Number of Attempts Allowed for IIT JEE exam Unlike JEE Main for which students get three chances, a candidate only gets 2 chances to crack JEE Advanced and that too, in consecutive years only. Students who appeared for Class 12 boards in 2013 or will appear for it in 2014 cannot sit for the 2016 exam. It means that students who will clear boards next year will only be able to appear for JEE Advanced 2016, if they fulfill other eligibility criteria. Admission Granted in 2016 Candidates who took admission at any of the IITs or ISM Dhanbad in 2015 and paid the admission fee at any of these institutes cannot sit for the exam in 2016. IITs take a strong view against such candidates who waste seats as these vacant seats mean lost opportunities for other eligible candidates and additional financial burden on the institute. Important Points Candidate’s admission to the institute can be cancelled at any stage, if their original documents are found to be false at the time of verification.  Check out this interesting piece of news relevant to this point!  Candidates whose board results will be declared after 2nd Week of July, 2016 are advised not to sit for the exam.
