"With delay in submission of Class XII scores, engineering institutes except for IIT may not consider the score any more."
Students applying to central engineering institutes, except the IITs, in 2016 or 2017 may not be required to submit their Class XII marks if the request of Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) is accepted by the HRD ministry, a leading daily reports.
Academic sessions in top institutes started a little late this year because of the delay in joint seat allocation process. This was because of a delay by the boards to submit scores to CBSE. This prompted the CSAB to consider taking admissions using JEE (Main) scores alone.

MP Singh, coordinator of the CSAB from NIT-Patna and part of JoSAA 2015 told the newspaper,"Many of the 47 higher secondary boards in the country are not sending their scores on time to the CBSE. Keeping in mind students' interests, we will be asking the apex body to conduct admissions only on the basis of the JEE (Main) scores." This means that the 40% weightage given to a student's Class XII scores will now be removed from the admission process to government funded technical institutes such as NITs.

In the report, another JoSAA official on this year's admissions to top institutes said, "There were some students whose marks were higher than what they actually scored in their Class XII. Such students managed to get a seat on the basis of the 'hiked' score in the joint seat allocation process."

A sub-committee as been formed by the joint entrance examination apex board to review the process of JEE (Main) rank allotment. The process of conducting the exams may also be reviewed to give candidates a break before they appear for the tests.

The report says that the competitive exam may be held earlier next year as the admission process requires more time.
